Baumann sets itself apart as a leader in the sideloader industry through a relentless commitment to innovation. Cutting-edge designs not only enhance productivity but redefine industry standards, providing businesses with unmatched efficiency and performance. That philosophy continues with the launch of their latest electric sideloader, the Baumann EXL, debuting at LIGNA 2025.
Building on the proven advances of the current Baumann electric ranges and combining them with the ergonomic finesse of the larger-style cabin, the EXL represents the next evolutionary step in high-capacity, compact electric sideloaders, offering a 5-tonne capacity within an impressively compact footprint.
Compact Power, Big Capability
At just 4,200mm in total length and with a platform height of only 750mm, the EXL is built to thrive in confined areas where space and efficiency are at a premium. Available with 1,200mm or 1,400mm wide decks and a total width of 2,000mm or 2,200mm, the machine balances robust load handling with agile manoeuvrability.
Under the hood, the EXL boasts an extremely powerful 120-volt system, paired with a high-capacity 120V/700Ah Enersys battery (with Aquamatik/WiiQ options), and a 14kW charger (32A mains connection), enabling sustained high performance across demanding shifts. The X-Plus 150mm outreach system provides reliable load access, and hydraulic fork adjustment ensures precise handling.
Designed Around the Operator
Operator experience is central to the EXL’s design. The truck features the spacious Comfort Deluxe BM80 cabin, complete with an air-suspended seat, excellent visibility, and intuitive controls for reduced fatigue and maximum comfort during extended shifts. Additional operator features include heating and defrost systems, LED mast-mounted headlights, and 4-wheel braking for enhanced safety.
As with its predecessors, the development of the EXL required a complete review of every component, material, and subsystem to optimise weight, structure, and power integration. The results speak for themselves.
By reducing the size and weight of the machine, less power is needed to achieve high levels of performance, extending running time between charges. The reduction also provides further scope for battery integration, in this case a specially designed intelligent system developed in conjunction with Midac, which can be paired with a charger system to re-energise in mid-shift without damaging the cells. With an eye on multi-shifting, there’s also a battery change option thanks to Baumann designing their own battery box.
“The war against weight was won,” said managing director Riccardo Bove in 2016, reflecting on the groundbreaking work put into the lightweight chassis of Baumann’s first 120-volt electric series.
“The size, battery integration and cabin were all big challenges,” adds Riccardo, but the overall results add up to a truck that is much more than the sum of its parts. In our intensive work cycle trials, we’ve seen great improvements in battery life and that it likely to increase even further in the field. The demand for five-tonne diesel models will all but disappear,” he predicted at the time.
That same drive for innovation lies at the heart of the new EXL. Developed as both an evolution of the ELX and a direct response to shifting market demands, the EXL combines advanced electric technology with Baumann’s renowned durability, high performance, and compact design, delivering exactly what modern operations require.
Advanced Features and Efficiency
The EXL is not only compact and comfortable, at launch it will be packed with smart options such as:
- 3-point automatic lubrication system for easier maintenance
- Hydraulic forks adjustment for precision load placement
- Taper fork profiles for smoother entry into loads
- LED lighting for superior visibility in low-light environments
All of these features contribute to a machine designed to deliver peak performance with lower running costs and minimal downtime.
Launching at LIGNA 2025
Visitors to LIGNA 2025 will be the first to experience the EXL firsthand, an opportunity to see how the latest in electric sideloader technology can revolutionise operations in tight, demanding spaces. The launch continues Baumann’s leadership in delivering high-efficiency solutions that meet the market’s growing demand for zero-emission, high-performance equipment.
The EXL exemplifies Baumann’s core mission: delivering powerful, compact and efficient sideloaders that lead the industry forward. It combines decades of engineering experience with the latest in electric technology to offer a sideloader that doesn’t just perform, it transforms how work gets done.
Whether you call it a workhorse or a sidehustler, the EXL is built for businesses that need to do more in less space, with less energy and greater reliability. Its compact dimensions and powerful electric drive system allow it to navigate tight spaces with ease, while delivering the kind of consistent performance and smart features that keep operations moving efficiently. This is the sideloader that works just as hard as you do, dependable, agile, and always on your side.
